I ask this question to get input from others who are fat like me. And I definitely qualify as a very obese 620 pound 51 year old. I have been with my company for just over nine years and until the last few months had a job where I traveled all the time. I had decided I was happiest when I was very fat, just like when I was as I grew up (200 in 4th grade to over 450 in high school). Each time I came back to our office during that time my size would show. My director was very supportive (she is also 290) and always wanted to make sure I was fine with the travel. She could see I was growing and happy. During my last year I gained the most (about 100) since all I did was work and eat in Iowa. She recognized my work and gave me a new better position in town. She even arranged for a specially designed work cube that accomodates my size (large chair, raised work area so I can fit and easy PC set up). Is your employer fat/obese friendly?
Instead of having chairs in my small office I would like to have oversized cushions for a more cozy relaxed atmosphere. My home office space is small and I dont want to overcrowd it. I have a large, heavy looking desk that almost overwhelms the space as it is. I do not want beanbag chairs though, so please dont suggest those. This is an adult office.

I currently rent a home and noticed that my kids have left some dings in the hard wood floor when they were rolling my office chair around the office area. The landlord is very particular about the floors and will have a fit if he sees this. We will have to pay for the repair so I want to know if there is something I can do to lift the ding out without furthur damaging the wood surface.Replacing the boards will be expensive. Please help.

Day 2, temp crown still slightly high, not enough to be troublesome, but you know it is not right.
Have an appt tomorrow for adjustment. Thank you for your comments. I knew he was not right in telling me that the composite he used to make the crown will adjust to my bite. He said it will take 24 hours. Well it is 24 hours and it has not changed. I know from experience this is not right and that is why I called his office when I got home, but unfortunately the girl was not cooperative and would not let me come back even though his office hours were until 8PM and it was 5PM. He is closed today so I will have to just continue to eat soft foods as I do not want a problem. He said he put temp cement on both sides to allow the gum to heal and not down (??) and he said he had to change the post since the decay was around it. I guess he used a bigger post? I don’t know that. He also said there were alot of ‘voids’ due to the old time cement used 17 years ago. but he said it was not a big deal and said the fact that I had a root canal done was a bonus and said he does this alot and not to worry. but i do. My concern now is: the new post and core, or whatever he did, is that going to cause any damage to the tooth in reference to fracturing it. I know root canal teeth don’t do well with future restoration work and worry about this too. I know one thing when the permanent crown is inserted I am not leaving his chair until I am completely satisfied, since I know it is difficult to come back in for a quick adjustment. I even walked back into the office after leaving yesterday when it felt high, with the novacaine. he was at the counter writing and I said can you adjust this -it is high and he said it will adjust on its own in 24 hrs. Maybe he was blowing me off – but I know enough not to eat anything hard or crunchy or on that side. So I will baby this for another day and eat soft foods on the other side. Strange though, he did a crown 2 weeks ago on the other side and the temp was perfect, the perm is perfect. So why would he let me leave his office after telling him it felt high? I understand the novacaine aspect, but he could have given me the benefit of the doubt and used the articulate paper. 2 minutes more that is all I needed. Now I have to go back. He also said that he is making the crown higher to fit under the gum and if it comes back from the lab not the way he wants he will do another impression or impressions, I hate those things. I told him, please try and make it work the first time I don’t do well with impressions, I have serious anxiety attacks. So your comments again are appreciated and thank you for your past responses. They are very helpful. He also said to rinse with warm salt water as the gum was inflamed a little due to the bacteria. No pain, just sore from the injections. Still hate the fact that it is not right. If I could I would grind it down myself, just one little corner.

when my husband{ who is violent well known by the cops. long criminal history} started to choke me. I screamed, someone called the cops. I told them what he did, and that they should arrest him. The smooth talker told them, that I am mentally ill and needed to see a dr.It is true that i have been diagnosed as schizophrenic. i get to the er, the dr holds me for 12 hours. my husband shows up to get me. The dr is about to release me to him because he determined me to be sane. I have no criminal history.while i was waiting for the dr, to come back to his office, i sat on his chair.{ i forgot i had urine in my pants.the reason i forgot is because i was high. ok so, the dr see’s me on his chair and hits me for sitting on his chair.next thing i know 15 people come running down the hallway and grab me, i go sailing through the air and they are holding me down on the bed and stick a needle in my leg in a vicious manner.I pass out. next thing I know i am in jail, accused of beating up five people.he was accused of beating up 14 people and the cops broke his back trying to subdue him. { yes he was high} tell me. what would be my motive for beating up five people when i was about to be released? I was convicted of a crime i did not commit. he admitted guilt, i plead the alford plea because i was told to by my lawyer provided by the state.If i had gone to trial would you have found me guilty if this is what i had told you in my own defense? Was it the drugs in my system that would convince you i was guilty? even if i told you my husband had administered them to me against my will by slipping them in my coffee? should I have gone to trial or was it really the only thing i could do? they lost the video tapes from the er that night convenient for them.
y;know that is why i plead the alford plea. yep, they determined me to be not credible. But God knows the truth about that night. I would not ever beat anyone up.In case you forgot, the alford plea is one that means, i am not saying i did this thing but you have enough evidence to convict. I then smashed my husband in the face….because he was tyimng to kill me. and was holding me against my will and i could not call the cops for the same reason that they did this to me this criminal with smooth talk is more credible Than me. I have never been in trouble with the law in my life.
by the way. I plead guilty to dv charges for the same reason. again i was high.It’s really sad, but i lived throgh it and i am much better now that he fears to come any where near me. UH, i wanted a divorce, and he said, "if i cannot have you no one will. "God has me.I get beat up 2 times in one night and convicted of a crime i did not commit. I remember everything up to the needle in my thigh. you gotta be kidding me, this is the justice system , as i know it. I haven’t had any trouble since. TADA!
My wife recently started a "work from home" job for a company. The company provided her with a computer & monitor and we, in turn, had to install a separate and dedicated internet connection and a telephone line for her to use exclusively in her job (we could not use our current Internet connection or our home phone – company rules). This office is set up in a spare bedroom that is not used for any other purpose (it wasn’t used at all until she got this job) & it doesn’t have any other furniture except a bookcase and a chair. We have to pay the installation fee plus the monthly bills for the separate Internet and phone lines. We have to purchase an ergonomic desk chair and a fire extinguisher for this office, per the company policy. There is a company inspector coming to verify that we have all of this set up per the company guidelines. She will do all of her work from home with the exception of a meeting she attends for a day every couple of months.
Now here’s the bone of contention with the tax deduction. In order to deduct the expense of a home office for an "employee", the office must be for the convenience of the employer and not the employee. She was given a choice of working from home at a reduced rate of pay AND incurring the expenses mentioned above OR working at their site which is quite a distance from our home. If she elected to work at the site, she would receive /hour more in pay and would not have to pay the monthly expenses that she does from home.
This is a national company that handles reservations many different well-known for hotels throughout the United States. They have offices in several major cities, and they offer this arrangement to all the employees who take reservations.
So I’m not sure if it satisfies the "at the convenience of the employer" portion of the IRS rule for claiming the deduction as a home office. Most situations are pretty cut and dry, but this one is not. Certainly if all their reservationists decided only to work from the main offices, the company would not have enough room for them and it would then be at the convenience of the employer. As it stands now, I’m not sure.
Someone who has actually dealt with this situation on a tax return please reply. I have done a lot of taxes myself over the years, so I don’t really need "In my opinion" answers.
If we can’t claim the business expense of the office, then working for less pay & footing all the bills of the office at home really doesn’t make much sense.
Oh, and by the way, the "company" does not offer tax advice. They said "See your tax accountant on the requirements for meeting a home office deduction."
Richard, you misread the question. We are not operating a "business", she would be an employee working from home at the convenience of her employer. I am aware of the IRS tax code on home office deductions.
